The Percentage Calculator answers the most common percentage questions: what is X% of a number, what percent one number is of another, and how much a value has increased or decreased. It is useful for marks, discounts, interest, tips, price changes and everyday maths.
Multiply the number by X and divide by 100. For example, 20% of 250 is 250 × 20 ÷ 100 = 50.
Percentage increase = (new value − old value) ÷ old value × 100.
This tool finds a percentage of a number using one formula: result = (percentage × number) ÷ 100. Enter the percentage in the first box and the number in the second box, and the answer appears instantly. Because everything is calculated in your browser, nothing you type is sent to a server.
Two related questions come up often and both use the same idea. To find what percent one number is of another, divide the part by the whole and multiply by 100, so 45 out of 60 is 45 ÷ 60 × 100 = 75%. To find a percentage change, subtract the old value from the new one, divide by the old value and multiply by 100.
Example 1: What is 18% of 2,500? Enter 18 and 2500. The result is (18 × 2,500) ÷ 100 = 450.
Example 2: What is 12.5% of 840? The result is (12.5 × 840) ÷ 100 = 105.
Example 3 (marks): If a paper carries 80 marks and you need 40% to pass, enter 40 and 80 to get 32 marks.
Divide the smaller number by the bigger one and multiply by 100. For example, 30 out of 120 is 30 ÷ 120 × 100 = 25%.
Percentage increase = (new value − old value) ÷ old value × 100. If a price rises from ₹800 to ₹920, the increase is 120 ÷ 800 × 100 = 15%.
If an interest rate moves from 6% to 8%, it rises by 2 percentage points, but the rate itself has increased by about 33% (2 ÷ 6).
