Frequently asked questions

How do I convert Celsius to Fahrenheit?

Multiply the Celsius value by 9/5 and add 32.

Are the results rounded?

Results are shown with limited decimal places for easy reading, so very precise scientific work may need more digits.

How the Unit Converter works

The Unit Converter handles three categories: length (metre, kilometre, centimetre, millimetre, mile, yard, foot, inch), weight (kilogram, gram, milligram, pound, ounce) and temperature (Celsius, Fahrenheit, Kelvin).

For length and weight, every unit is first converted to a base unit (metre or kilogram) and then to the target unit. For temperature, the value is converted to Celsius first. The formulas are F = C × 9/5 + 32 and K = C + 273.15.

Worked examples

Length: 5 kilometres = 3.1069 miles.

Weight: 70 kilograms = 154.3236 pounds.

Temperature: 98.6 °F = 37 °C, and 0 °C = 273.15 K.
