About the Date Difference Calculator

The Date Difference Calculator finds how much time lies between two dates and shows it as total days, weeks, months and years. Use it to count the days until an event, the length of a project, the gap between two bills or how long ago something happened.

How to use the Date Difference Calculator

  1. Select the start date.
  2. Select the end date.
  3. Click Calculate to see the difference in days, weeks, months and years.

Frequently asked questions

Is the end date included in the count?

The tool counts the days between the two dates. If you want to include both the first and the last day, add one day to the result.

Why are months and years shown as approximate?

Months have different lengths, so month and year values are rounded estimates. The total days figure is exact.

How the Date Difference Calculator works

This tool compares two calendar dates and gives the result in two ways: the total number of days and a breakdown in years, months and days. Choose a start date and an end date. The end date must be on or after the start date.

The total is the end date minus the start date, so the start day is not counted. If you want to include both the first and last day, add 1 to the result.

Worked examples

From 1 January 2026 to 10 October 2026, the total difference is 282 days, which is 0 years, 9 months and 9 days.

Another common use is a project timeline. A project starting on 1 March and ending on 30 June is 121 days apart, or 122 days if you count both the first and last day.

Tips and common mistakes

More questions about the Date Difference Calculator

How many days are between two dates?

Pick the dates and press Calculate Difference. The total days are shown at the top of the result.

Does this count the start date?

No. It returns the end date minus the start date. Add 1 if you need an inclusive count.

What if the end date is before the start date?

The tool asks you to select an end date that is after the start date. Swap the dates to get a positive result.

How is the years-months-days breakdown calculated?

It subtracts the years, months and days one by one. When the day is smaller, it borrows days from the month before the end date.
